Clay Bromley, Intern

Hi, Clay, and welcome to Dedrone as our newest intern! Can you share a little bit about what you do every day?

As the summer engineering intern, I mostly get to work with the machine learning and computer vision team on a variety of different projects. While I have only been here for a few weeks, I have already had the opportunity to train classification models, build flight path approximation algorithms, and more! My days typically consist of working on projects that other engineers have prepared and learning more about how a SaaS company functions. In the future, I would love to work with other teams and do what I can to help Dedrone!

What have you learned this summer?

So far, this summer has been an incredible experience! As a college student studying machine learning, it's great actually being able to apply what I’ve studied at college to solve a real-world problem. I am learning a lot about working with a team and how engineers operate at a high-tech start-up. I also love the opportunity to travel from the U.S. to Germany and learn about living in a different culture. I am so grateful to Dedrone for this amazing opportunity!

What has been your favorite thing so far about working at Dedrone?

The best part of working at Dedrone is definitely the people I work with. Everyone is incredibly passionate about the work they do and wants to see the company thrive. I definitely want to continue working in this type of environment. I also really enjoy the work that Dedrone does, making an important difference to protect people, property and information from the threat of drones. Mostly, I'm just happy to be a part of this team!

What kinds of issues do you wish more people knew about in airspace security?

While I don't have a lot of experience yet, I definitely have noticed that people not in the airspace security sector don't always realize how dangerous drones can be and how difficult classifying and tracking drones can be. Since every drone model is different, a wide variety of data streams are required to get the job done efficiently.

Outside of your work with Dedrone, what do you enjoy doing? Are there any hobbies you’re particularly proud of?

In my free time, I enjoy working on my own projects and learning more about different machine learning models. Outside of tech, I love distance running and I want to run another marathon eventually.  I also love movies and music, and I am in a variety of performance ensembles at my college where I play the tuba.

Thanks so much for sharing, Clay, and we hope the rest of your internship goes well!
